Dandrene Shampoo Combat Hair LossDandrene is an anti-dandruff shampoo claimed to be effective for both greasy and dry dandruff by addressing the fungi on the scalp that generates dandruff and moderating sebum production. Its active agents include climbazole, ketoconazole, manuka and willow complex, and an extract of pomegranate.

According to Dandrene marketers, climbazole and ketoconazole effectively inhibit the fungi that generate scales without depleting cutaneous moisture. Ketoconazole is also claimed by Dandrene manufacturers to exert anti-androgenic activity against dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a male hormone known to stimulate sebaceous glands and cause hair loss. However, ketoconazole is not proven to be effective in the treatment of hair loss.

Manuka and willow are botanical sources of antifungal and anti-irritant action while pomegranate extract contains properties to regulate epidermal differentiation and suppress itching.

In cases of greasy dandruff, Dandrene is believed to work by engaging ketoconazole, manuka, and willow reducing excess sebum on which fungi feed, thus reducing dandruff.

In cases of dry dandruff where an environment of insufficient sebum occurs (hyposeborrhea), Dandrene is believed to work by engaging other ingredients including buchu, henna, and maiden hair fern to stimulate sebaceous gland production.

Dandrene also contains B vitamins, amino acids, enzymes, and minerals, allowing makers to further claim that Dandrene repairs and rebuilds hair and scalp strength and shine.
