DS Laboratories has manufactured a product range called Spectral – topical products marketed for the treatment of men’s hair loss and hair loss in women. They are cosmetic products and are not approved by the FDA or licensed by the MHRA for the effective treatment of hair loss.

Spectral DNC-N is formulated for men and women with noticeable thinning hair. It is claimed to maintain follicle health to produce optimal hair at every stage of life and to employ a “Nanosome-encapsulation system” to transport ingredients deeper into the skin for longer performance and better efficacy.

Spectral DNC-N contains Procyanidin B-2, retinol, adenosine, and Aminexil, but boasts Nanoxidil 5% as its active ingredient. Nanoxidil was developed by DS Laboratories in an attempt to mimic the efficacy of minoxidil. Minoxidil is one of only three products clinically proven and approved by the FDA and licensed by the MHRA for the treatment of hair loss.

Spectral DNC-S is indicated for men and women with advanced stages of hair thinning. It is claimed to reduce the effects of the hormonal by-product that contributes to hair loss and to help regenerate hair follicles. Spectral DNC-S contains ion-channel openers calcium, sodium, and potassium, which the manufacturer claim are effective in transporting ingredients to the cell membranes for optimal hair growth.

Spectral F7 was developed to augment the use of Spectral DNC-N or Spectral DNC-S and contribute to an overall improvement of hair and scalp health, or to be used as a stand-alone treatment during the early stages of stress-related hair thinning.

Spectral F7 contains Proharin-β4 (octapeptide 2), bis(tripeptide-1) copper acetate, and lecithin. It also contains astressin-B, a protein peptide which the manufacturer claims can improve follicular health and protect the hair follicle from stress-induced hormonal damage.

Spectral RS was developed for men and women with thinning hair not caused primarily by genetics. DS Laboratories states that it works by addressing factors such as stress, hormonal disturbances, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, and certain medications.

Spectral RS contains ingredients believed to improve nutrition, circulation, and metabolism in hair follicles, and adenosine and procyanidins B-2 and C-1, which the manufacturer claims show effectiveness similar to that of minoxidil. Like Spectral DNC-S, the manufacturer claims the key to effective performance of Spectral RS is the use of Nanosome microspheres as the carrier agent of active ingredients.
