Hair transplant surgery - Combat Hair LossHundreds of surgery students and prospective hair transplant patients tuned in to watch surgeon Dr. Dinesh G. Gowda perform the five and a half hour operation.

Dr. Gowda demonstrated this new ‘vertical harvesting’ technique which involves taking hair from the donor site in vertical, rather than horizontal, strips. This method of extraction is meant to minimize scarring when compared to current Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) techniques.

The surgeon is keen to point out that vertical harvesting is a different type of hair transplant. He says the operation uses a ‘hair transplant technique which is superior to the FUE technique where in there will be more quality and quantity graft with near to zero scars“.

In this method one can get single follicular graft and also DFU (Difolicular graft) which gives immense density and much better results than FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). If someone is worried about the scar in strip method they can opt for vertical harvesting. Till today globally horizontal strip method is the gold standard. This new technique of vertical strip method is in between much superior to FUE technique”.

As the demand for hair transplants soars, it will be interesting to see how widely this new method is adopted as a means to address male pattern baldness.
