The reasons are too numerous to go into detail here, but....
Read our dedicated article on the causes of dandruff here
In a nutshell though dandruff in normally caused by a skin disease such as seborrheic dermatitis and dry pityriasis, the most common conditions, plus atopic dermatitis, pityriasis versicolor, tinea capitis, psoriasis, and contact dermatitis. Rea more about these in our dandruff article here.
How Does Dandrene Work Exactly?
Because Dandrene shuts down dandruff via three methods of action by:
- applying next-generation antimycotic technology to inhibit the fungi that generate dandruff
- by drying up the excess oils that fuel those fungi, and
- by delivering nutrients to repair and rebuild hair and scalp. Volumes of clinical research demonstrate these properties.
Dandrene out-performs mass-market products by deploying more effective antifungal agents and natural extracts,
What's In Dandrene that helps Combat Dandruff?
- Climbazole - exerts maximum efficacy against the Malassezia furfur and Malassezia globosa that generate moderate to severe seborrheic dermatitis and dandruff. Pioneering studies of azole technology demonstrate that a shampoo based on climbazole delivers the most successful reduction of dandruff, redness, and itching, achieved by 80 percent of volunteers.
- Ketoconazole - emerged over the last decade as the most effective broad-spectrum antifungal agent, according to several studies, some of which compare ketoconazole to zinc pyrithione directly. In these trials, antidandruff shampoos containing ketoconazole are proven significantly more effective than those based on the former standard, zinc pyrithione.
- Manuka extract - from a botanical shrub native to New Zealand and eastern Australia, provides a natural source of highly effective antifungal agents for antidandruff application.
- Willow extract - exerts natural anti-irritant activity and supplements the inhibition of pathogenic fungi.
- Pomegranate extract - from a superfruit packed with vitamins, restores a more balanced epidermal differentiation process to slow scaling and strengthen the barrier function of skin.
This five-way formulation means patients disappointed with mass-market shampoos - and those who simply want the ultra-premium treatment - achieve their best results by using Dandrene

Can I Do Anything Else To Help?
In addition to using Dandrene to inhibit fungi and dampen seborrhea, these additional steps may reduce dandruff further.
Manage stress. Tension can make people susceptible to disease generally and stimulate dandruff production.
Shampoo often. Oily scalps should get shampooed vigorously daily to help loosen scales and stimulate circulation. Several times per week, use an updated antidandruff formula such as Dandrene, with fungicidal climbazole, ketoconazole, and botanicals, to inhibit yeast and seborrhea.
Let it work. When using a medicated shampoo, massage well and allow lather to contact the scalp for at least five minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
Handle gently. Let hair dry naturally instead of blowing it with heat. Brush with steady strokes to carry oil from scalp to strands, which need it to stay healthy.
Avoid products. Hair sprays, gels, mousses, and waxes all build up on scalps and make them greasier.
Eat right. A diet rich in B and E vitamins, zinc, selenium, and essential fatty acids may help quell dandruff.
Get some sun. While prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light damages skin and increases risk of cancer, a few minutes of sun on the scalp can help inhibit fungal proliferation and dandruff.
