Question:
I have not experienced major hair loss…its thinning of hair due to the use of a hair dryer and straighteners…I use hair straighteners literally everyday and now after so many years of use my hair seems much thinner than it used to be. Its stilll quite shiny but not thick.
- So are there any hair loss products for me or are they all just for people with hair that is caused by hormonal problems?
- Will it be OK for me to still use hair straighteners whilst using a product like Revivogen?
- Will a product like Revivogen stimulate hair growth or just make the present hair stronger?
Answer:
I don’t think straighteners can actually cause hair loss that easily if used in moderation. However, if used too much though they can damage hair and that in turn could lead to hair loss. Basically, you are heating your hair and that can damage the hair and make it brittle which could lead to hair loss, yes.
If you must use straighteners all the time then please use a good conditioner - preferably a deep conditioning treatment at least once a week, or maybe more if your hair is naturally dry. Make sure you get your hair cut before split ends appear. Also, remember, not all straighteners are the same - the cheapest are probably best avoided - go for a professional quality straightener - talk to your hair dresser - they should know which are the best!
Finally, make sure your hair is completely dry before straightening, make sure it’s totally smooth as possible by brushing with a good brush first - you want your hair tangle free - you don’t want to iron in any tangles!
In regards to the correct product for thinning hair - don’t use anything with alcohol in if you are straightening your hair every day. Personally I would suggest the Thymuskin range of products - the shampoo and cream rinse conditioner would be best for you - you don’t need the Treatment or Med Gel at this point.
You can use most hair loss products as well as using straighteners as well.

Question:
I went a few years back for a consultation with (removed) & have been using their 3M drops (used to be just 3 drops, the M means they added minoxidil to the formula, which has a DHT inhibitor, I think). The drops definitely slowed down my hair loss - I was about a 3V on the chart when I first saw them around 5 years ago & I’d say I probably still am, which is why I say I have ‘thinning hair’ rather than ‘losing hair’ (although on second thoughts, I must be losing it!).
However, apparently due to new EC regulations, (removed) require clients to have blood tests on file, checking testosterone and oestradiol levels. This led me to look for alternatives, as (removed) also suggest regular check ups and although they are nice enough, it’s a very expensive way of having someone tell you that everything’s fine and please keep using the drops !
I’m thinking about Revivogen : how does this compare with Procerin & Thymuskin in both their approach and effectiveness ? Is one more natural or less ‘aggressive’ than the others ? How do you think they would compare with Minox?
Answer:
Hi, OK, firstly I would say that Revivogen and Procerin are very similar - except Revivogen has a shampoo and thickening conditioner too. Thymuskin is a better range than both of those for your situation I believe and I would recommend it over minox any day which is all (removed) is I believe. The Thymuskin Treatment and Shampoo combination is what was used in the clinical trials and this I believe would be best for you rather than Revivogen/Procerin.
We have a “kit” in standard and large size that contains both these:

Based on the 3V self-assessment I would say that you have a good chance of recovering the lost hair in 9-12 months using these products, maybe even sooner, though it depends upon whether the follicles have miniaturised and died or are simply lying dormant - more or less impossible to say really.
You might want to use the Med Gel as well last thing at night.
You said you scalp was fine? So the Treatment should not cause a problem - if you’ve been using minox for a while anyway without ill effects then your scalp can obviously take alcohol without a problem
If you want to know anything more then feel free to email me at the address you have.

Question:
Hi, could you please tell me if bleaching my hair could make the hair loss worse? I have have bleached my hair for several years now and the hair loss has started again after a 7 year gap of it being OK! Help
Answer:
Hi are you saying that you used to suffer from hair loss 7 years ago and now it’s returned? Bleaching hair has not been proven to be the cause of hair loss though it can make it worse. If you suffer from alopecia you should try and avoid harsh chemicals on your hair and try and use special colourings instead. Your hair stylist should hopefully be able to advise you on this.
However, if your hair loss has just started again after 7 years there is a chance something else has caused it/triggered it, some sort of hormonal change or some kind of situation that has caused severe stress maybe? Only you will know if you have suffered say a bereavement or a divorce or some other major event in your life. You should also take into account the condition of your scalp - is it itchy or inflamed in anyway? Please visit your GP as the next step and don’t be fobbed off either - insist on being referred to a specialist if they can’t or are not willing to help. You have my email address so please let me know how you get on.
