The men of Buckinghamshire town, Milton Keynes are more likely than ever to seek surgical help for their male pattern hair loss according to a local hair transplant clinic.

Hair transplant surgery - Combat Hair LossReporting on the number of patients booking hair restoration procedures in 2014, The Private Clinic reports an increase of 39% from 2013. They claim demand is at an ‘all time high’ in their area, with the busiest month for hair transplant consultations being November.

The clinic specialises in Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) operations – the same type of hair transplant that was carried out on celebrities such as Wayne Rooney and James Nesbitt whose openness about their surgery and resulting press coverage is undoubtedly part of the reason for its rise in popularity.

Dr Thomy Kouremada-Zioga, a surgeon at the clinic explains, Over time, I think awareness of the procedure has certainly grown. It is also fair to say that there is no longer such stigma attached to the idea of a man undergoing a transplant procedure; today this is something which men of all ages, who are suffering with hair loss, would probably look to consider.”

FUE hair transplants involve harvesting donor hair from the back and sides of the patient’s scalp using a robotic punch device and embedding them into the thinning areas on top or around the hairline. They are carried out under a local anaesthetic and patients are recommended to follow a pharmaceutical hair loss treatment course (finasteride 1mg and minoxidil) for around six months prior to the operation, as well as post-transplant, in order to stabilise hair loss and prevent the hair around the transplanted area from shedding.
